SAPS LAUNCHES SAFER FESTIVE SEASON OPERATIONS FOR 2026/2027

The South African Police Service (SAPS), together with its law enforcement partners, has launched the 2026/2027 Safer Festive Season Operations at Kwabokweni Stadium in Mpumalanga, reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and combating crime during the busy festive period.

The campaign aims to strengthen crime prevention, improve public safety and ensure that South Africans can travel, celebrate and participate in festive activities without fear of crime.

Acting National Commissioner of SAPS, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, outlined the objectives of the operations, describing the launch as a demonstration of the police service’s readiness and commitment to public safety.

She emphasised that the initiative goes beyond an annual policing exercise, highlighting the importance of operational preparedness and accountability in protecting communities.

Dimpane said the festive season should be a time of joy and togetherness rather than violence and tragedy, stressing that every person should be able to travel, work, worship and celebrate safely.

She further reaffirmed SAPS's commitment to ensuring that people return home safely while businesses and communities enjoy a secure festive season.

The Safer Festive Season Operations are aimed at strengthening efforts to prevent crime, protect communities and promote safer roads and public spaces throughout the 2026/2027 festive period.
