Mother Hands Over Son Wanted for Alleged Pensioner Rape

A 28-year-old man wanted in connection with the alleged rape and robbery of an elderly woman in Ga-Sekgopo has been arrested after his mother handed him over to police.

The suspect, identified as Sello Modiba, was arrested in Mosata, Ga-Sekgopo, after his mother assisted police in locating him and took him to the Modjadjiskloof Police Station.

The incident allegedly occurred on Thursday night, 13 August 2026, when an elderly pensioner was reportedly raped and robbed during a housebreaking.

Modiba had allegedly been on the run for nearly a month before his mother decided to cooperate with police.

Police said Modiba remains a suspect, and his alleged involvement will be determined through DNA and other forensic evidence.

He is expected to appear in court this week.

The arrest comes amid ongoing concerns among Ga-Sekgopo residents, particularly in Mosata, following reports of several alleged rape cases involving elderly women.
