Mpumalanga Health Department Urges Communities to Prioritise Heart Health

The Mpumalanga Department of Health used the event held on 29 September 2026 in KwaMhlanga to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease and encourage communities to take action to protect their heart health.

The event highlighted the 2026 global theme, “Don’t Miss a Beat,” which serves as a reminder that heart disease can sometimes go unnoticed until serious complications develop.

The department encouraged members of the public to learn about the warning signs of cardiovascular disease and take steps to reduce their risk, particularly as many heart-related conditions and their risk factors can be prevented or effectively managed.

The Mpumalanga Department of Health also urged residents to normalise regular health checks and not wait until they become seriously ill before visiting a healthcare facility.

Community members were encouraged to know their blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels, among other important health indicators, and to seek professional medical advice whenever concerns arise.

The department emphasised that a simple health check can help identify potential health risks early, provide an opportunity for timely intervention and, ultimately, save lives.

The message to communities was clear: do not miss a beat when it comes to protecting your heart.
