Mpumalanga Health Department Launches 76 Vehicles to Strengthen Healthcare Services

The Mpumalanga Department of Health launched 76 vehicles today, 23 October 2026, at 09:00, in a move aimed at strengthening healthcare services and improving access to medical care across the province.

The newly launched fleet comprises 10 ambulances, six Patient Transport Services vehicles and 60 service delivery vehicles. The investment is expected to enhance emergency medical response, improve patient transportation and support the daily operations of healthcare institutions and programmes.

The 10 ambulances will strengthen the department's emergency response capacity, enabling medical teams to reach patients more efficiently during emergencies. They will also support efforts to reach patients within the critical Golden Hour, when timely medical intervention following traumatic injuries can significantly improve the chances of survival.

Meanwhile, the six Patient Transport Services vehicles will help improve access to healthcare for patients who require transportation to and from health facilities, particularly those who face challenges accessing essential medical services.

The additional 60 service delivery vehicles will boost the operational capacity of healthcare institutions and programmes, helping ensure that essential health services reach communities throughout Mpumalanga.

The department reaffirmed its commitment to providing quality healthcare services to the province's estimated 5.1 million residents, highlighting the importance of strengthening resources and improving service delivery across the healthcare system.
